I don’t get sick very often so I’m going to share with you the 7 (very unscientific) things I do.

1. WASH HANDS OFTEN.

I can’t emphasize this enough. My friends make fun of me because I’m constantly washing my hands and my hands are always dry so I’m always putting lotion on them. But, I don’t get sick very often and I think it’s because I’m really good about washing my hands.

Whether I use anti-bacterial or regular soap, it doesn’t really matter to me. I think it’s just matters that I’m washing my hands and I wash them for a good minute when I do so.

2. GET PLENTY OF REST.

I know that if I only sleep for 4 or 5 hours on Monday, and 4 or 5 hours on Tuesday, and that goes on and on for three or four days, by the fifth day, I am probably going to start catching a cold.

So I’m really good about getting at least 7 hours of sleep; sometimes 8, and if for some reason I come home and I feel like I’m not feeling so hot, then I try to get 9 or 10 hours that particular night. I know that’s hard when you have family and obligations and everything, but it’s so important to get rest if you feel like you’re coming down with something.

3. EXERCISE.

I am at the gym probably five to six days a week and I’m really good about it. On the days when I come home and I’m like, “Well, I not sure if I feel like going to the gym today, I just not feeling up to it, I have a headache”…whatever…those are the days that I really push myself to get to the gym

I definitely feel better when I’m get in exercise even when I’m not really feeling like doing it.

4. DISINFECT.

Now I don’t go around spraying everything in creation.

But, if somebody in my house is sick, I’m disinfecting the rooms for sure. Because I do not want to get sick. The other thing I do is open the windows a bit, letting some fresh air in, circulating. I think that kind of helps too.

So, have disinfectant on hand. The wipes sometimes are good. Open your windows. Keep the air as fresh and germ free as possible.

5. BACK AWAY.

If I know that somebody’s sick, I don’t want them right next to me. So I make sure I keep backing up until they are about 3 feet away from me. If they’re sick and coughing I don’t want them coughing on me and if I have to tell them, I will.

I know that’s not as easy with a child. If my child is sick, of course I will hug her. Although I try not to be right up in her face when she’s coughing. But anybody else…make sure you have your personal space and then hopefully you won’t get sick.

And if you’re going to shake their hands, that’s OK as long as you wash your hands or use anti-bacterial lotion right afterwards. Really important if you’re a churchgoer and you shake hands in church.

6. LOTS OF FRUIT and VEGGIES.

Every day, try to get in as many fruits and veggies as you can. I eat fruit every morning, I always eat veggies and fruit with lunch. I usually eat a big salad with lots of raw veggies and sometimes fruit added. In the evening, again, lots of veggies and at least a piece of fruit at night.

I know that the vitamins in the fruits and veggies are helping somehow. Make sure you fit those in every single day. If you miss fruits and veggies in a meal, double up in the next meal if you can.

7. TEA WITH HONEY AND CINNAMON.

I’m sure you heard that it’s good to drink tea when you’re not feeling quite right…like if you feel a sore throat coming on.

When I feel a little raspy-ness in my throat and I say, ‘Wow… I feel like I might be catching a cold or something.’ I immediately grab the tea, I add a teaspoon-ful of honey to my tea, and this is my secret ingredient…it is cinnamon.

It doesn’t really mix into the tea well. It sort of sits on the top. But for some reason, the tea, the honey, and the cinnamon mixture together really helps to ward off, 99% of the time it makes that feeling go away and 9 times out of 10 I will not end up with the sore throat.

Those are my 7 very unscientific ways I stay healthy and I hope that some of these will help you stay healthy as well.
